A survey is an excellent way to not only find out who may be interested in getting involved, and at what level (e.g., volunteer, donor of items, steering group member) but will also serve to raise awareness and build evidence of demand that you can refer to in funding applications.
You can use online survey tools to find out what the level of interest is like in your area, what people would like to borrow/donate and start to build a list of contacts. (Make sure you’re clear about what the contact data will be used for and ensure you are complying with relevant GDPR* and data privacy laws).
Sharing your online survey via local networks on social media can be effective but remember that it’s important to include those who don’t have access to the internet –place some paper copies of your survey in community centres, or work with community groups to go and meet people face to face wherever possible.
Some areas already have an existing community directory that could be held by your local council, and we suggest speaking to your local Third Sector organisation for support.
