Promote Your Launch

Letting people know in the community about your project and developing ongoing engagement activity

Social media is great for promoting your launch, and if you can get support from local groups and prominent members of the community then you’ll quickly get a buzz going.

Use a hashtag like #BenthygNidPrynu #BorrowDontBuy, tweet or tag groups and people who you think would be supportive and make sure you engage with users who express an interest by following them, liking, or retweeting anything they say about your Benthyg branch.

Remember, not all members of your community will use social media - you can let them know about your Benthyg branch by putting up posters in shops and libraries or visiting local group meetings to tell them in person.

You can also write a press release to share with the local paper, asking them to publicise the event in advance and invite them to attend and write about the launch.

When launching your Benthyg branch make sure you provide clear information about what will be on offer - if holding a launch event are you asking people to donate items in the first instance or will you already have items they can borrow? If the latter, you’ll need to remind them to bring proof of address and some money to get started.

In line with the ethos of Benthyg Cymru, ensure your publicity and launch is inclusive of all12 © Benthyg Cymru 2022members of your community by involving as wide a range of people as possible, using a variety of media.

We suggest you either create social media pages for your Benthyg branch or use your venue’s / organisation’s existing social media pages and add any events you hold to your Benthyg branch’s Facebook page (and your venue’s Facebook page if they have one).

We can provide you with Benthyg-branded template social media cards. We will add your Benthyg branch to our website and will arrange for you to have your own dedicated section on our website which will hold all of your contact details, the location, opening hours etc. so that people can contact you directly. With this in mind, you will need to email us a picture of your venue that can be included on your dedicated page.

We strongly recommend you create a new email account for your Benthyg branch (e.g.Benthyg[name]@gmail.com)) so that your personal email address is not in the public domain and doesn’t get bombarded with spam.
