It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Maya Bimson.

Maya was a true community dynamo who gave her time, energy and considerable talents through many voluntary roles. Much of what she did happened quietly in the background—chairing meetings, writing funding applications, developing ideas and doing the countless unseen jobs that help community projects survive and flourish.

She served not for recognition, but because she genuinely cared. Maya was humble and selfless, with a kind and generous heart and a warm, lovely personality.

Llani Library of Things was a project Maya helped bring to life through her work with the climate action group Zero Carbon Llanidloes. She cared for it, nurtured it and worked tirelessly to help it grow. Her vision was to create a sustainable “borrow, don’t buy” resource that would reduce waste, lower carbon footprints and save local residents money.

Without Maya’s vision, determination and commitment, the Library simply would not exist. It is only one of the many lasting legacies she leaves to Llanidloes, and we will always be grateful that she trusted and encouraged us to carry her idea forward.

We will do everything we can to continue the Library in the spirit in which Maya created it: practical, generous and firmly rooted in our community.

Our deepest love and sympathy go to Maya’s devoted husband, John, and to all her family at this unimaginably difficult time. She will also be deeply missed by her many friends, the community organisations and projects she supported and, of course, everyone at Llani Library of Things.

Maya’s family has very kindly chosen Llani Library of Things to receive donations given in her memory. If you feel able to honour Maya by helping us continue her remarkable legacy, donations can be made here.

Thank you, Maya, for your vision, your tireless service and everything you gave so freely to our community. A new light is shining in heaven, while the light you kindled here will continue to shine through all the lives and projects you touched.
