Across Wales, people are already borrowing, repairing and sharing what they have, saving money, cutting waste and building stronger communities.

Now, Benthyg Cymru and Repair Café Wales have come together to take this movement to the next level, launching Borrow. Repair. Repeat. A Manifesto. It's a national call to action to make Wales the best in the world at borrowing and repair.

This isn’t just about stuff.

It’s about fairness, access and community. It’s about making sure everyone, no matter where they live or what they earn, can borrow what they need, learn new skills and look after the things they already have.

The movement is already making a difference

Benthyg Cymru

‍📍 35+ Libraries of Things across Wales, enabling people to borrow instead of buy.
📈 Borrowing has increased 400% since 2021.
🌍 21,229 items borrowed, 252,086 kg of carbon saved, and £528,579 saved by households.

Repair Café Wales

📍 130+ volunteer-led Repair Cafés across Wales, helping people fix everyday items and build new skills.
🔧 27,737 items repaired, 912,547 kg of carbon saved, and over £1 million saved for users.

Together, Benthyg Cymru and Repair Café Wales are proving that borrowing and repair work, they save money, reduce waste, strengthen communities and create local jobs.

Communities are ready now we need to build

Polling shows strong public support across the UK for repair, reuse and sharing:

73% of people are open to repairing broken items

60% are open to buying pre-loved

44% would consider using a Repair Café

That’s why Benthyg Cymru and Repair Café Wales are calling for government and funders to:

Recognise borrowing and repair as essential local infrastructure.

Normalise borrowing and repair through national campaigns.

Embed these services in everywhere rural to urban, schools to workplaces.
